What is counselling
How can it help?
Many of us find times in our lives when we no longer recognise how we are feeling or even how to behave and are confused, anxious and concerned about our feelings and thoughts.
Sometimes we experience a sense of losing oneself, deep sadness or times of acute anxiety. Life events can be very difficult to come to terms with or extreme events may completely shake up life. Often the process of talking to a person, who will not judge us and understand how we are feeling can be helpful and liberating.
Mental anguish or emotional distress can be viewed as normal reactions to abnormal life events. When pressures continue to increase in an ever changing world allowing yourself time and space may be a step towards ensuring you are able to understand and accept yourself.
Speaking to a counsellor can help a person regain perspective and understand themselves more fully. Going through difficult times involves change and a counsellor can offer consistency and continuity when everything else seems uncertain and possibly unrecognisable, by helping people explore and possibly shine some light on to areas that they may have felt too embarrassing or difficult to share with loved ones; from this a person can discover levels of self acceptance that may move them forward and allow a shedding of anxieties or fears that are no longer helpful to their life.
